T, Olubunmi Olosunde
T. Olubunmi Olosunde (better known as Bunmi) is an Africana Studies literature professor in both the City University of New York (CUNY) and State University of New York (SUNY) higher educational systems. Bunmi earned her bachelor's degree with a dual major in Sociology and Africana Studies from Stony Brook in 2003 (receiving the Richard B. Moore scholarship) and headed straight into SUNY Albany's master's program in Africana Studies immediately after graduation, earning that MA in December 2004. She went on to earn another master's degree in Secondary Education with a focus on English from CUNY Brooklyn College in 2009 while working full time. She then entered the NYC Public School system as a teacher, educating grades 6 through 12 until her acceptance into Howard University's Ph.D. program in English.
In addition to her educational and career achievements, Bunmi is also a proud and active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She is a charter member of the Alpha Alpha Omega Omega Chapter, the first and only chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha in Nigeria. Bunmi has also served as a Big Sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters for 7 years, mentoring a young African American girl nearing college. Additionally, Bunmi is the International Studies Ambassador for I AM C.U.L.T.U.R.E.D., a global travel-based youth enrichment and self-empowerment nonprofit organization. In this capacity, Bunmi spearheads curriculum formation and facilitates location-specific historical and cultural information workshops.
